Buttercup of Highland Dale (PV, D), White Highland Cow

Buttercup of Highland Dale is a white registered Highland cow, AHCA #73526, born March 24, 2022, at Highland Dale in Missouri. She was raised as one of our orphan heifers until DNA parentage testing through UC Davis showed that her mother is our herd matriarch, Finley Falls Phyllis. Her sire is J Bar T’s Magnum Force.

Kyle’s girl

Buttercup has a special place in the heart of our son-in-law, Kyle. He brushes her coat, and she lets him, especially when he sneaks her a treat. She’s gentle and loves the attention.

Raised as an orphan

For her first years, we didn’t know which cow was Buttercup’s mother. She grew up in a separate pasture with two other orphan heifers, Sam and Amber. The three of them greeted us at every visit. When DNA testing identified all three mothers, we learned Buttercup is Phyllis’s daughter. We also learned that Sam, who grew up beside her, is actually her niece.
