A Field Planted for Love

Beauford Wilson knew what brought his wife of nearly 50 years, Emily, joy.

For years, Emily (known to all of us as Ms. Em) has poured her heart into flowers, arranging bouquets with her church, the local flower club, and showing her arrangements at the Missouri State Fair. Beauford admired that gift in her, and he wanted her to have a place where it could grow.

So he gifted her a field, set aside just for her flowers. It was his way of saying what he felt: that he saw her talent, that he was grateful for her, and that she should always have flowers to love.

That field is now the heart of Highland Dale's flower art. Every piece we make begins with Beauford's gift to Emily.

A Home for Native Flowers and Pollinators

Highland Dale partners with the Missouri Department of Conservation to care for the field. Its purpose is to keep a healthy environment for native Missouri wildflowers and an active pollinator field for the bees, butterflies and other pollinators that depend on them.

Wildflowers in the field include over 30 native species, including purple coneflower, black-eyed Susan, butterfly milkweed]. We pick with care, so the field keeps coming back season after season.

From the Field to Your Home

Once picked, the flowers are dried or pressed by hand and arranged into art that keeps a Missouri summer in bloom all year.

Flowers from the field have:

  • Decorated weddings

  • Become art shown and sold at juried shows

  • Been chosen for pieces sold at our partner storefronts around Missouri

Because every flower is picked by hand from one field, no two pieces are alike.
